Thesis

Two films known for their distinct visual styles, Drive and Scott Pilgrim vs The World are two films; one independent, the other Hollywood that I believe would not be anything individual or great without the before mentioned visual styles. Despite being a Hollywood film, Scott Pilgrim has a visual style that could be considered one of an indie film, by subverting the classic visual style of Hollywood films. This means that Scott Pilgrim vs The World could potentially try and reach the status of being an art form much like an independent film. Drive has a visual style that pays homage to it being indie and thus an art form. I still however believe that both films would be nothing great or defining without their visual styles. They do this do try and reach a more niche audience with visual styles that appeal to those personally of those within this niche, set atop your stereotypical film storylines, to try and be considered a work of art rather than “just a film”. Which, when we remove this visual style, removes the niche, and thus the audience as a whole.
